The story behind Big Thunder Mountain has always been part of what makes it so special. Set during the height of America’s gold rush, the legend follows Barnabas T. Bullion, a determined prospector who struck it rich and quickly set out to build his mining empire. But as the story goes, the mountain had other plans.
Strange events began to unfold, equipment breaking down, tunnels collapsing, and an eerie sense that something deep within the mountain wasn’t too pleased with all the digging. It’s that same unpredictable energy that fuels the adventure riders experience as they board those runaway mine trains. And when the ride reopens, guests will once again find themselves caught in the middle of that wild, untamed wilderness.
A Classic Ride Gets a Major Refresh
This refurbishment isn’t just a quick tune up, it’s a top to bottom refresh designed to keep this beloved attraction running strong for years to come.
One of the biggest upgrades includes a brand new track system and refreshed ride vehicles. While the heart and soul of the ride remain the same, these improvements are meant to enhance the overall experience with smoother motion, added detail, and even more immersive storytelling.
Even better? After thorough safety updates, the height requirement has been lowered to 38 inches, meaning more little adventurers can join in on the fun.
