Think You Mastered Buzz Lightyear? Think Again!

We just got the chance to experience the updated Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom during previews and I’m telling you right now… it is SO good. We tried it firsthand and the upgrades completely change the game. The new blasters feel smoother, more accurate, and way more interactive, and the updated targets make it easier to actually see when you hit something. It honestly makes the whole ride feel fresh again.

And yes… we are already planning how to hit Galactic Hero next time!

What’s New and What You’ll Notice Right Away

The mission itself still feels familiar. You are helping Buzz defeat Emperor Zurg and save the galaxy. But now there are a lot more layers to it.

One of the first things you’ll notice is a brand new character named Buddy. He’s a friendly robot that helps get you ready before you launch into your mission. It’s actually a fun little moment to test your aim before things really start.

The ride vehicles also got a glow up. They now have updated colors inspired by Buzz and Star Command, plus onboard screens that show your score in real time. It adds a little extra pressure in the best way.

Now let’s talk about the biggest upgrade… the blasters. These are handheld now, which is a game changer. You are not stuck aiming from one fixed spot anymore. The lasers stay on so you can actually see where you are aiming, and each rider has their own color so you know exactly which shots are yours. There are also light, sound, and vibration effects when you hit a target, which makes it way more satisfying. But, the targets are now smarter and way more fun, and this is where things get interesting.

Targets now react when you hit them, so you are not just guessing anymore. Some targets will light up or look different, and those are the ones you want to pay attention to.

If you see a target with a white ring around it, go for it. Those are worth double points until someone hits them. Even better, if you spot one with a multicolor ring, drop everything and aim for it. Those are rare, they move around, and they are worth the most points in the entire ride.

There are also moments where hitting certain targets boosts the value of everything around you for a short time. It turns into a fast paced scramble, and you have to react quickly to take advantage of it.

How to Actually Get a High Score

If you are trying to level up your score, here are a few things that really matter now:

• Aim for the center of each target. Accuracy counts more than ever
DO NOT ignore the harder shots. The more difficult they are, the more points they are worth!
• Watch for anything that lights up or changes. Those are your big opportunities
Switch up your strategy as you go. There is no one perfect way to win anymore

The ending matters more than you think! One of the coolest updates is what happens at the end. So PAY ATTENTION!

It is not just about how many points you rack up in the moment. The ride now tracks how many different targets you hit throughout the mission. The more variety you have, the bigger your final bonus. So, if you are only focusing on one target the entire time, you might actually be missing out on a higher score.

Final Thoughts

We loved this update. It keeps everything that makes the ride nostalgic but adds just enough new tech and strategy to make you want to ride it again and again. It feels more interactive, more competitive, and honestly more fun for all ages.

If you are heading to Walt Disney World soon, make sure this is on your list. Whether it is your first ride or your fiftieth, it is going to feel like a whole new mission. Now excuse us while we plan our next attempt at Galactic Hero… to infinity and beyond 🚀
